It’s not easy being Arabic when subjects such as 9/11 arise. Because of this incident, we’re looked down upon. Don’t blame a national group for an act caused by a selection of people from said group. I mean, times like today, I just wish that I could apologize to my country for the acts that were inflicted upon the US, by people of my race. I wish that it could be enough to lift the resentment that is laid upon Arabs because of 9/11..

In All Seriousness Though.

It’s Memorial Day. Today I’m going to keep 9/11 veterans and firefighters, policemen, any one who served that day, in my heart, whether they were lost or whether they survived. First of all, to my cousin Bobby… He played a small part as a firefighter who helped to clean up debris from the horrible attack, but a courageous part it was. I’m very grateful for him. And to the dozens and dozens of other firefighters who played a part of rescue — an even more courageous act. They risked their lives to save the lives of others, what selflessness they had. Of course I’m speaking of all the firefighters. But to those who did actually lose their lives, even greater respect for them.

To the passengers of the plane who decided to overtake it just minutes before it came in contact with the White House, I personally would love to thank them. So many lives lost, but for what? For an attempt to basically save their country, and that they did.

And lastly, I want to thank the terrorists. (Don’t freak out just yet though…) I thank them for showing us what it means to dust ourselves off, most literally, and show the world that because of one attack, we are not helpless. By this attack, President Bush made the decision to start a war. And though so many of us have lost loved ones through that war, we were able to fight back and regain our nationality.

Surely, we were set back by 9/11, any country would be. But through it all, we remained strong.
